Preserve the Character. Protect the Future.
Historic buildings require a different approach to construction. They contain materials, proportions, craftsmanship and architectural details that cannot simply be replaced with modern shortcuts.
Right Choice Restoration has experience working with historic and architecturally significant properties, particularly in the Houston and Galveston areas. Our goal is to preserve the character that makes a historic property special while addressing the structural, functional and safety requirements necessary for its continued use.
Historic restoration requires patience, creativity and an understanding that sometimes the most valuable part of a building is what should not be changed.

Planning & Scope
We evaluate the project and establish the scope of work, required trades, materials and construction considerations, coordinating architects, engineers, designers and permitting when needed.
- 03
Pre-Construction
Before construction begins, we organize scheduling, selections, materials and project sequencing to reduce unnecessary delays and surprises.
- 04
Construction
Our team coordinates the trades and manages the work as the project progresses, maintaining communication and monitoring the details that affect quality.
- 05
Final Walkthrough
At completion we review the project with you, address remaining punch-list items and make sure the work is ready to be enjoyed.
Questions
Common questions
Do you restore original details or replace them?
We repair and retain original material wherever it is sound. When something is beyond repair, we document the profile and replicate it so the character is preserved.
What qualifies as a historic property in Houston?
Properties in designated historic districts (like the Heights) or individually landmarked by the City of Houston fall under historic guidelines. Even non-designated older homes benefit from restoration-minded approaches.
Do you work within Houston's historic district requirements?
Yes. We're familiar with the Houston Archaeological and Historical Commission (HAHC) review process and design work to meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards where required.
Can you replicate original millwork and details?
Yes — our in-house millwork fabrication lets us reproduce period trim, casings, doors, and architectural details that off-the-shelf products can't match.
How is restoration different from remodeling?
Restoration prioritizes preserving original character and materials; remodeling prioritizes updating for modern use. Most historic projects blend both — we preserve what makes the property special while making it function for today's living.
